SAG Awards 2012 Winners
The 18th Annual Screen Actors' Guild Awards honored on Sunday night the top movies and television shows of today. The cast of "The Help" as well as HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" were the night's top winners.
The entire cast of "The Help," based on a novel by Kathryn Stockett, took the stage to accept the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Also, the two top honors for actresses went to the film adaptation's Viola Davis, who earned Outstanding Actress, and Octavia Spencer, who took home Outstanding Supporting Actress.
"Boardwalk Empire" saw two awards for outstanding performances. The show's star, Steve Buscemi, took home the male actor award and the show also earned Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
The Guild's top award, the Life Achievement Award, was given to Mary Tyler Moore. Her husband, Dick Van Dyke, presented the honor to the actress. Moore is best known for her roles on television sitcom series during the 1960s and 70s.
Meanwhile, Best Actor went to "The Artist" star Jean Dujardin, and Best Supporting Actor went to Christopher Plummer in "Beginners."
Jessica Lange took home Best Actress in a Television Series (Drama) for her role in "American Horror Story." The hit television series "Modern Family" was chosen as top comedy for its second year running.
Alec Baldwin earned his sixth Outstanding Actor award for playing a TV executive on "30 Rock," and Betty White took home the Comedy Actress award for the second time with her tole on "Hot in Cleveland."
Other television awards went to Kate Winslet who was named Best Actress in a small-screen movie or miniseries for "Mildred Pierce," and Paul Giamatti won the trophy for actor in a movie or miniseries with "Too Big to Fail."
