Samsung Drops One Patent Countersuit Against Apple in California
The legal woes that began since April between Apple and Samsung quickly underwent a snow ball effect with both companies suing and counter-suing each other in several countries in as much as three continents.
Apple initially filed a lawsuit against the South Korean company over the Galaxy smartphone's resemblance of the iPhone in various aspects including hardware design and software to which Samsung counter-sued by filing lawsuits against Apple in Europe and Asia.
In addition, Samsung last week filed another lawsuit in the U.S. and asked the International Trade Commission to block all Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod imports from overseas.
As things seemed to heat up increasingly between the two, the latest update in this case is Samsung dropping one of its counter-lawsuits against Apple in the U.S.
According to Bloomberg who got in touch with a Samsung rep in Seoul, the reason the Korean company decided to drop the lawsuit was to "streamline the legal proceedings" in what seems a move to centralize its legal position rather than “surrendering.”
Samsung continues to sue Apple in 6 other countries.
