Samsung Galaxy 8 'Galaxy UNPACKED 2017' Live Stream News: Everything to Know About the Samsung Announcement
Samsung has just announced its flagship handheld in a live stream aired earlier on March 29, 11:00 p.m. EDT. The "Galaxy UNPACKED 2017" event launched the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Find out the details on one of the biggest phone launch events this year.
The unveiled Galaxy S8 has a new, almost seamless look, with the side bezels trimmed down to a thin sliver and covered with a wraparound display. What remains of the top and bottom bezels are also left uncluttered by visible buttons or fingerprint sensors. It will also be the first phone to debut the company's new Bixby artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, which will be limited to some regions for now, according to CNet.
The live stream event started on time on March 29, 11:00 pm EDT; it aired simultaneously in San Francisco at 8 a.m., New York at 11 a.m., London at 4 p.m., Tokyo at 12 a.m. midnight on March 30, and on Sydney at 2 a.m. on March 30 as well, according to The Verge. The "Galaxy UNPACKED 2017" went online on Samsung's website as well as its Youtube page.
While the numerous leaks and hints may have blunted the surprise of the new specs for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, the reveal still shows an overall amazing set of components that went into the phone.
It's the first Samsung model to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip. It also has new Iris-scanning and facial-recognition features that, by first impressions, are said to be very fast and just works. A lot of features from the Galaxy S7 carries over — water-resistant body, wireless charging and a headphone jack. While the S8 has the same 12 MP rear camera, the front camera is now capable of 8 MP with autofocus. The company also claims to have made major changes to the image processing software for the new Galaxy line.
Preorders for the new flagship phone by Samsung starts today, March 30, with the phones hitting the shelves on April 21.
