Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs Galaxy S5: Who Can Go Up Against the Apple iPhone 6?

Although the newly-released Samsung Galaxy Alpha wasn't able to share the popular "S[insert series number here]" moniker of the South Korean tech company, the mid-range device still has some rights to brag in the smartphone world: it being the first Android phone to incorporate a metallic frame.

Like with the S series flagship Galaxy S5, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is set to compete against the recently unveiled device from Apple, the iPhone 6.

Designed to exude a high-quality premium standard, it can't be helped that the Galaxy Alpha will be compared to its sister device. Here's a comparative review.

Design
Taken from its first look, the Galaxy Alpha is indeed built to impress Android users. Its .26" thickness makes it the slimmest and the lightest Galaxy smartphone that ever come out from the Samsung production line.

In comparison, the Galaxy S5 settled at a relatively thicker 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm measurement. In truth, it doesn't make any difference at all. Although, its plastic (polycarbonate) framing does make a big deal.

Display
Galaxy Alpha didn't fare well in the screen department with it having a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display and a 1280 x 720 resolution.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S5 soared to the 5.1-inch full HD Super AMOLED screen stats with pixel density of 432ppi.

Hardware
The Galaxy comes in two different variants. The quad-core model, said to be destined to hit European and North American markets, has Snapdragon 801 SoC which clocks at 2.5GHz. Meanwhile, Asian region will have an octa-core Exynos 5430 processor (quad-core 1.8GHz and quad-core 1.3GHz).

Of course, the much faster processing power of the Galaxy S5 is owed to its 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM.

Price
According to Business Insider, Galaxy Alpha will be made available in the U.S. by AT&T Mobile for $200 two-year contract deal or $613 price. The Galaxy S5, which was launched earlier, arrives at a price around $550.
