Samsung Galaxy Beam Launches in the UK
Samsung announced the availability of its smartphone-projector hybrid, the Galaxy Beam, earlier this week.
The device is now available in the U.K. and is a projector smartphone that allows users to display and share multimedia content wherever they are.
"We were delighted by the hugely positive response we received from both customers and media when we first announced the Galaxy Beam at Mobile World Congress back in Feb.," said Simon Stanford, Vice President of U.K. & IRE Telecommunications & Networks Division, Samsung U.K. and Ireland.
"It's the kind of device you won't find anywhere else; a high definition projector within a standard sized smarphone- and is great for people who want to watch movies, show photos to friends or need to give a presentation while they're out and about," he added.
The Galaxy Beam can be used to change any room into a mini home-theater since it has the ability to project full screen video clips. It can also project business information and games onto any wall or ceiling in HD up to 50-inches wide.
The Galaxy Beam measures at 12.5mm thick and features a sleek design. Other specifications on the device include a 1.0GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of internal memory, a 4-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel camera, and a 2000mAh battery that will help power the handset's projector.
It also comes with Android 2.3, Gingerbread pre-installed.
The device will run on HSPA networks in the U.K.
Carphone Warehouse is currently offering the Galaxy Beam for free on a number of contracts starting at £31 per month.
The device should also be available on a number of carriers throughout the U.K. It can be purchased without an agreement through VAT for £454.80.
