Samsung Galaxy J7 Catches Fire Mid-Flight?
Samsung has worked hard to bury the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 in the past. Recently, the tech giant released the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, which is arguably the best phablet that the market has to offer. Critics gave positive reviews for the smartphone. However, recent reports have revealed that although no reports of an exploding Note 8 have yet to surface, a Samsung Galaxy J7 has caught on fire during a mid-air flight.
"It was observed on board Jet Airways' flight 9W 791 Delhi-Indore that smoke was emitting from a guest hand bag. Jet Airways crew immediately took charge of the situation, as also all necessary steps as precautionary measure, and as per the prescribed guidelines," a spokesperson from Jet Airways said, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Further reports have revealed that the Samsung Galaxy J7 belonged to a passenger named Arpita Dahl. She recounted that she placed her carry-on handbag under her seat as soon as the flight took off.
However, about 15 minutes since takeoff, the smoke became noticeable, which incited a panic through the 120 passengers of the flight. The crew of the plane responded by first attempting to use the fire extinguisher, which did not work. In response, the crew resolved to drop the phone in water to prevent the spread of fire and any potential explosions.
Considering that the failed fire extinguisher added stress to the situation, Dahl's husband Atul has said that he will be filing a complaint against Jet Airways as the safety of the passengers were put into question. He said that if there was a blast and their fire extinguishers failed to work, there might be catastrophic consequences.
Samsung has yet to respond to the situation, but they are reportedly in contact with the relevant authorities to address the sudden threat to customer safety. More information on the incident is expected in the coming weeks.
