Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Price Set for $399.99 in the US
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 price will be $399.99 in the U.S and will launch on Thursday.
This allows the tablet to compete with the iPad Mini, Kindle Fire HD, and Google Nexus 7. Samsung has removed the mobile data chip for the U.S. launch and will make it a Wi-Fi-only device. The tablet will still come with its main selling point: WatchON, which allows users to search for live TV programming and video on demand to view on their handheld device or big screen TV as the Note provides second screen functionality.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is already available in the U.K. and costs £339, which is equivalent to $520. The price difference could be due to its data chip that is included overseas.
The tablet can be purchased at Samsung's Experience Store at Westfield Stratford City and will launch at other retailers in the U.K. sometime soon. The 3G variant is also expected to hit stores in the near future.
One of the next markets to receive the Galaxy Note 8.0 will be the Philippines, where the tablet will launch on April 13. The device will cost P24,000 there.
The tablet was unveiled at this year's Mobile World Congress by Samsung, who revealed that the device will charge wirelessly.
The company was also expected to introduce several other tablets, but instead focused on the new Note 8, which will compete with the iPad Mini when it finally launches.
The Note 8 sports an 8-inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution and 189 ppi. This is a bit higher than Apple's iPad Mini's screen, which has 163 ppi.
Other specifications on the device include a 1.6GHz quad-core A9 processor, 2GB RAM, and special features such as Smart Stay that allows the tablet to recognize if the owner is still awake. This will make it automatically go on standby once the owner falls asleep or stops using it. It is said to be seamless and very responsive.
