Now, it looks like tech enthusiasts finally have an idea about how the development of the highly anticipated next-gen phablet is coming along. According to a report by SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 carries the model number SM-N950F, but is also internally codenamed by the tech company as "Great."

The recently revealed codename is contrary to earlier rumors that the device will be given the codename "Baikal."

Samsung's choice to use the "Great" codename to refer to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is reportedly a deliberate move on the part of the Korean tech giant in order to convince itself and the consumers that the battery-related issues of the Note 8's predecessor is nothing but a distant memory, and that the next Galaxy Note phablet will be a huge success.

According to a report by PC Advisor, the Galaxy Note 8 might be released sometime in August 2017. The device is rumored to arrive with a Quad-HD+ or a 4K SuperAMOLED display, and a display size of 6.2 inches. It is likely to be under 8 mm thick, waterproof, and features dual cameras as well as a high-capacity battery, fast wireless charging and USB-C support.

The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to run the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, with an update to Android O within just a few months of its launch. The device is also expected to come with a minimum of 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

With the launch of the Galaxy Note 8 not happening in several months, Samsung still has some time left to regain consumer faith through the upcoming unveiling of the Galaxy S8 on March 8 in New York.

Should the launch of the Galaxy S8 prove to be successful, Samsung fans can expect the Galaxy Note 8 to arrive sometime in August 2017.
