Samsung Galaxy Note: Exclusive Hands-On Review
The Samsung Galaxy Note smartphone and tablet hybrid arrived on the scene earlier this year after the Korean Electronics giant stirred up plenty of hype for the device. With a 5.3-inch display, the gadget blurs the line between a smartphone and a tablet, making it a one-of-a-kind device. Samsung's marketing for the Galaxy Note has been somewhat overwhelming, with commercials displaying the S Pen stylus featured on it and stands being built in malls in order to allow shoppers to test it out. The Christian Post recently got its hands on the Note and here is what we thought about it.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy Note features a unique design and actually closely resembles the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket that is now available on AT&T. You can fit the device in your pocket depending on what kind of pants you are wearing despite its larger display. However, fitting it comfortably is a whole other story.
The Galaxy Note is great for reading and surfing the internet. Its screen size is ideal for that type of activity and it perfects what Samsung has tried to do with some of its larger smartphones. And although the Galaxy Note's design is awkward to some, we did not find that it was inconvenient for use. If functions perfectly as a compact tablet that also happens to have a phone.
Speed
The Note features a 1.4GHz dual-core processor along with 4G LTE. It is as fast as any smartphone or tablet user would need it to be. It works great with the internet and is excellent for multitasking.
Display
The Note has a 5.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels. The picture on video is nice and clear and the display is slightly more vibrant than the one included on the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. However, it does not quite match up to the high-definition Retina display included on the new iPad. Still, it is still more impressive than most of the competition.
Camera
The 8-megapixel rear shooter included on the Galaxy Note takes high quality video and beautiful pictures. It is also nice to play back your video footage on the device's 5.3-inch display.
S Pen
The S Pen gives the Galaxy Note a competitive edge. You can barely notice it when its stored in the back of the device. However, the apps designed specifically for the accessory are extremely unique and fun to use. The ComicBook! app allows users to turn their photos into a comic. We had a lot of fun playing with this. We also enjoyed the game known as Crayon Physics where lines must be drawn in order to reach a goal with a circle. It is tough to explain, but this game is extremely addicting and fun.
Postcards can be personalized with the S Pen. It allows you to doodle on top of pictures a created memos with the pen as well. However, not all of these apps work the same with the accessory. Some are more sensitive than others when you are using it.
Conclusion
The Galaxy Note is an innovative and great device to be released this year. I strongly recommend it for anyone who wants to purchase something new, fun and innovating. The S Pen apps make it more enticing and Samsung could have hit the jackpot with this one if it ends up becoming popular.
