Samsung Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich BETA Rom Now Available

The Samsung Galaxy S2 should be receiving an official Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade within the next few weeks, but until that time this new BETA version of the software should be able to hold users over.

Many Android fans were left disappointed last week when Samsung decided to delay the official upgrade and not provide them with a definite release date. YouMobile.org received this new BETA version and recommends it for those who cannot wait to get their hands on Ice Cream Sandwich.

"While we are waiting for Samsung to Start Rolling-out the Update, we have just got a New BETA ROM of the Android 4.0.3 ICS," wrote the site.

The version it received is code named "I9100XXLPJ" and was built on Feb. 14, 2012. It runs Android 4.0.3, Ice Cream Sandwich on the Samsung Galaxy S2.

In order to successfully run it on a Galaxy S2 the user must download it and follow the installation instructions posted on YouMobile.org.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is arguably the world's most popular Android smartphone with it being available on most carriers; moving millions of units globally.

The device debuted at the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Specs on the device vary from carrier to carrier. Most Samsung Galaxy S2s feature a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal memory with microSD support, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass coating, and 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p recording, and a 2-megapixel front camera.

All models of the Galaxy S2 run on Android 2.3.5, Gingerbread. Samsung officially branded the device as the "iPhone killer" before its official launch last year.

The smartphone has also inspired other variants including AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket that functions on the carrier's LTE network. It features a larger display at 4.5-inches, and a dual-core 1.5GHz processor.
