Samsung Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade Leaks
It seems that the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the wildly popular Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone has arrived sooner than expected, but not without its fair share of bugs.
Tech site, Gizmocrunch reported earlier this week on the first beta release of a custom Samsung Galaxy S2 Android Ice Cream Sandwich ROM. And now they are reporting about a second firmware surfacing.
The site describes the Ice Cream Sandwich ROM as a build by Samsung that is based on the firmware the company developed on Dec. 8, 2011. This new ROM is supposed to be slightly faster than the first version, but contains many bugs in its system.
Galaxy owners using flashing stock ROMs should probably steer clear of this upgrade since it will cause you to lose your warranty. The ROM has an unsecured kernel and their Samsung Galaxy S2 will start counting on their custom counter.
This new Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S2 can be found at sammobile.com, a site that introduced the first beta as well.
Android 4.0, better known as Ice Cream Sandwich, officially launched on the Galaxy Nexus smartphone earlier this month. The Nexus was named the flagship device for the software earlier this year. Both the system and handset were unveiled at Samsung and Google’s ‘Mobile Unpacked’ event in November.
Shortly after the unveiling, rumors began to hit the Internet regarding the upgrade for the new operating system coming to other popular Android smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S2 was one of the first devices expected to receive the software, but not officially until next year.
Verizon’s Motorola Droid Razr is also expected to receive the upgrade sometime in the near future.
