Samsung Galaxy S2 Not the Only Competitor to iPhone 5

Motorola's newly refined Atrix 2 is rumored to be joining the smartphone competition against its competitors, the Samsung Galaxy S2 and rumored iPhone 5.

The new Atrix 2, codenamed the "Edison" by the company, will sport a less angular appearance. The smartphone comes with a 4.3-inch qHD LCD touchscreen, a microUSB & HDMI port, 1GB RAM, 8GB of storage with microSD expansion, HSPA+ connectivity (but no LTE), an eight megapixel camera, 1080p video capture, a two-megapixel front-facing camera, up to 8.5 hours battery life, up to 16 days standby, WebTop support and Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread.

The Atrix 2 handset will be powered by Texas Instruments' OMAP4 dual-core processor. The two cores clock in at 1GHz. Nvidia will not be the processing programming used for this phone, unlike its predecessor. Its screen resolution is reported to be qHD or 540 x 960.

The previous Atrix's PenTile pixel technology will also not be making a return to the model.

The Atrix 2 will be heading to AT&T, just like the last Atrix smartphone. No pricing details and official release date news have been heard thus far. It is expected to release with 4G capabilities with HSPA+ connectivity, though.

News of the new Atrix 2 is expected to cause the price of the original Atrix smartphone to decrease.

The first Atrix, known as the Atrix 4G by the AT&T, sported 4G LTE powers. The Atrix 2 however is said to not come with those same features.

This new smartphone joints the current list of smartphones already offered by Samsung and Apple. The Atrix 2's capabilities are similar to some of the features for the Samsung S2 and oft-rumored iPhone 5. The memory space differs for these phones, though.

Popular Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Sensation 4G and Motorola’s very own Photon 4G all feature 4.3-inch screen. Andorid smartphone seem to be sporting this screen size as the standard model. Stiff competition between these Android smartphones is expected as the holiday season nears.
