Samsung Galaxy S2 Release Date: AT&T Set to Launch 'iPhone 5' Competitor

The Samsung Galaxy S2 will be released in AT&T stores October 2, just before the predicted unveiling of Apple’s iPhone 5, a network representative has announced.

Samsung’s fastest selling new smartphone will reportedly sell for $199.99 with a two-year contract by the carrier.

PCMag’s mobile analyst Sascha Segan said the phone was the “finest Android smartphone available today,” and has AT&T customers waiting in great expectation for the “iPhone killer’s” release.

In his review he wrote, "The Samsung Galaxy S II isn't just a competitor to the current iPhone. It competes with the next iPhone.”

He added: "The Galaxy S II is the fastest Android device I've ever used, with the best screen, the best camera, and the latest version of Android software. It easily makes the cut for our lists of The Best Android Phones and The Best Unlocked Phones."

The device was first released on the Sprint network on Sept. 16.

It features Samsung's Exynos 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of internal memory, a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture, and a 10 percent larger battery than the first-generation model. It also runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread OS along with the latest version of TouchWiz.

AT&T's version of the Galaxy S2 features a smaller 4.3 Super AMOLED Plus touch screen than the Sprint’s 4.5 inch version.
