Samsung Galaxy S2 Release Date: Get Yours for Just $99
The new Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone will be available for just $99 at Walmart for customers who pre-ordered the device at the retailer.
Walmart will offer the Galaxy S2 for $100 less than Samsung had originally announce, undercutting the price of the smartphone’s biggest competitor, the iPhone 4.
The retailer expects pre-orders to be filled to capacity by Friday, the same day Walmart will launch the phone.
The store will be the first outlet to make the phone available to customers, while the Galaxy S2, also known as the Epic 4G Touch will be available everywhere else on Sunday, Sept. 18.
The smartphone offers the largest screen to date at 4.52-inches which is also a Super AMOLED Plus display.
It runs on Sprint’s WIMAX 4G and has a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 16 GB internal storage memory.
Like the rumored iPhone 5, the smartphone also comes with an 8 megapixel rear camera capable of 1080p full-high definition recording and a 2 megapixel front.
Galaxy S2 also comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Samsung TouchWiz UI already pre-installed.
The Galaxy S2 is entering the market before the highly anticipated iPhone 5 which the smartphone seems specifically created to go up against.
The iPhone 5 will run on Apple’s iOS 5.
It is also rumored to include a larger screen than the iPhone 4 along with an 8 megapixel camera which is said to take more impressive pictures than something produced by a camera company.
No information on the iPhone 5 has been officially confirmed by Apple at this time.
