Samsung Galaxy S2 Release Date: Two 4G LTE Smartphones Unveiled by AT&T
AT&T has finally announced its plans to release its first two LTE smartphones that includes the launches of the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and the HTC Vivid.
Both of these 4G devices will hit stores on Nov. 6.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket is similar to the previous version of the smartphone released on AT&T in the beginning of October including a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display.
It will run on Gingerbread OS and match T-Mobile’s version with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor along with an 8-megapixel camera capable of filming 1080p HD video.
It also includes a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot.
The Galaxy S2 will be able to upgrade to the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich OS sometime in 2012.
The Skyrocket version should receive the upgrade around the same time.
The HTC vivid is also quite impressive with a 4.5-inch qHD display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel f2.2 28mm wide angle camera. It will also be capable of filming in 1080p full HD and will include 16GB of internal storage.
This is exciting news for AT&T to finally have two impressive Android handsets ready for release on the company’s LTE network.
Other carriers such as Verizon and Sprint, have had devices of this caliber running on 4G speeds for quite some time now.
AT&T is playing catch-up with a network that it promises with be capable of upload and download speeds roughly 10 times quicker than current 3G networks.
AT&T’s LTE network will go live in Boston, Washington D.C., Baltimore and Athens, GA on Nov 6.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket will go for $249.99 with a new, two-year agreement and the HTC Vivid will be priced at $199.99 under the same terms.
