Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket AT&T Smartphone Review
AT&T recently launched its second version of the widely popular Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone known officially as the Skyrocket.
Both of AT&T’s S2 models are compatible with 4G, but the Skyrocket is one of AT&T’s first handsets that will work on 4G LTE networks.
The Christian Post recently got its hands on the device and spent a week testing it out.
For display, Samsung chose to go slightly larger with the S2 Skyrocket, giving it a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED plus display. Meanwhile, the original AT&T version is only 4.3-inches. However, the big size does not hurt the device resolution at 800x480 pixel resolutions.
The Skyrocket gives the user a high-definition smartphone experience with a perfectly sized screen for watching movies, reading books and gaming. Any Skyrocket owner can comfortably perform any of these tasks with this device. The handset may even distract them from using their HDTV or PC, because playing and watching on the Skyrocket might prove to be more convenient.
The Skyrocket also features a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor that makes navigating the device a pleasure. A user of the device can open documents, emails and surf the Internet at speeds comparable to most PCs. The 4G-network connection does not hurt either. Gaming is also made quick and efficient on the device.
However, the Skyrocket tested by CP was used in New York City where LTE networks are not yet available from AT&T. This means the smartphone is not even being used at its full potential and it still impressive with speed.
The S2 Skyrocket also possesses an 8-megapixel camera similar to most other S2 models that can film HD video in 1080p. The smartphone shoots detailed pictures and can capture any family event in high-definition quality.
Although the iPhone 4S camera performs slightly better than the S2s, the Skyrocket's 8-megapixel shooter does not disappoint.
For battery life, it seems a Skyrocket owner can get one full day of moderate usage without having to charge the phone. Its Li-ion 1850 mAh battery seems to lose juice quick while gaming or surfing the Internet. Heavy usage will probably call for more than one charge.
Other specifications on the device include 16 GB of internal memory and Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system; soon to be updated to the long awaited Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket is certainly a powerful and efficient smartphone up there with the Droid Razr and iPhone 4S, and a efficient buy because AT&T held a national sale this week offering the handset for just $.01.
