Samsung Galaxy S3 to Sell Over 10 Million Units in July?

JK Shin, the head of Samsung's mobile division, made a bold prediction to Reuters this week, stating that his company expects to sell over 10 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S3 in the month of July.

The company also thinks it will have a better quarter than its last that spanned from January to March, where Samsung grossed a $3.6 billion dollar profit.

This prediction seems like it could actually happen as long as some of the recent issues with the Galaxy S3, such as component shortages, do not hinder its launch.

Shin addressed the shortages and assured reporters that customers should not worry about getting their hands on the new smartphone in a timely fashion.

"We're getting far better reviews on S3 than we did with its predecessors globally … and supply simply can't meet soaring demand," said Shin. "We've sent executives and staff to almost all our suppliers to ensure a smooth offering and hopefully things will get better from next week."

He also expressed his optimism for this quarter's profits.

"The overall market condition was challenging due to euro zone issues and tight supply of components ... but (our) second quarter results will be better than the first quarter," added Shin.

Issues with the smartphone arose last week when three of the major carriers in the U.S. including AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile all were not able to offer the Galaxy S3 with 32GB of internal memory due to shortages in supply.

"Due to overwhelming demand for the Galaxy S3 worldwide, Samsung has informed us they will not be able to deliver enough inventory of Galaxy S3 for Sprint to begin selling the device on June 21," said the carrier.

There have also been shortages in supply with the pebble blue model of the handset.
