Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Release Date Confirmed for Summer

Samsung confirmed the existence of the Galaxy S4 Active yesterday and also announced its release for this summer.

The device comes with many of the same features found on the original; however, its redesigned exterior prepares it for any type of outside environment. The S4 Active is both dust tight and waterproof carrying an IP67 certification.

"The Galaxy S4 Active is the newest addition to the Galaxy series and is purposefully designed for active users who love the outdoors," said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT and Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. "Samsung has taken the innovative features of the Galaxy S4 and added breakthrough protective design elements to create a device that thrives in an active environment and is build for a lifestyle of travel and exploration."

The smartphone's design allows the owner of the device to submerge it in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. It also has a water resistant earphone jack. This is a great device for those who want to bring it in their pool to take photos or to capture every moment while on a wild rafting trip.

Other specifications on the Galaxy S4 Active include a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 2,600mAh battery, a 5-inch Full HD TFT LCD screen (443 ppi) and a new feature called "Glove Touch" that allows users to operate the handset's touchscreen while wearing a glove.

Unlike the regular Galaxy S4, the Active model comes with an 8-megapixel camera that can be used underwater with another new feature known as Aqua Mode. This can be used to increase the visual quality and clarity for enhanced underwater images and video. It turns the volume key into a camera key which allows users to easily and quickly open the camera application to capture photo and video the moment it happens.

The Galaxy S4 Active will be available this summer and will come in different color options including Urban Grey, Dive Blue, and Orange Flare.
