Samsung Galaxy S5 on Finally Gets Android Lollipop Update From AT&T
The wait is finally over for Samsung Galaxy S5 owners on mobile carrier AT&T. After months of complaining that one of Samsung's flagship phones has not yet received the much awaited Android Lollipop update, S5 owners may now avail of the update through over the air updates.
As of April 8, AT&T has not yet released the update and this is despite its release for S5 units on other mobile carriers such as Sprint and Verizon. A report in TechTimes dated April 8 noted that the update for the newer model has not yet arrived, while AT&T has already started rolling out updates for the older Samsung Galaxy S4 model and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
The report speculated that the reason why the carrier may have chosen to delay the update may be due to software issues that S5 users encountered when updates were rolled out months earlier by other mobile carriers such as Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. These carriers had to stop the updates abruptly and re-introduce them only recently.

In an April 9 report in TechTimes, AT&T had officially announced that the update is now available for the S5. This announcement was made only two days before the release of its newest flagship phones, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge, which already has Android Lollipop pre-installed.
AT&T released the following update summary: "AT&T released a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900A) on April 8, 2015. The update is available to customers to download via Firmware Over The Air (FOTA). Wi-Fi is required for the update and the file size is 1.4 GB."
A support page is available for users to consult about the details of the update, the highlights of Android 5.0, and instructions for those who prefer initiating the update themselves rather than wait for the firmware update to be "pushed to them."
