Samsung Galaxy S5 Specs to Feature 3GB of Mobile RAM

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will most likely feature at least 3GB of mobile RAM.

The company announced this week that is has started mass-producing 3GB LPDDR3 memory for smartphones. The first handsets to feature the upgraded hardware will launch in the second half of the year.

"The Samsung 3GB LPDDR3 mobile DRAM uses six of the industry's smallest 20-nanometer class four gigabit LPDDR3 chips, in a symmetrical structure of two sets of three chips stacked in a single package only 0.8 millimeters high," wrote the company in a press release.

Galaxy Note 3 rumors have pointed to the phablet featuring 3GB of RAM. However, Samsung has not confirmed any information on the device at this time. The LG G2 is also one of the first devices expected to be released with the new low-powered RAM.

These new RAM modules are power-efficient, fast, and offer 'full' LTE-A support letting device makers create even slimmer devices that utilize saved space for bigger batteries or other components.

"Three gigabyte mobile DRAM will be adopted in the most up-to-date, high-end smartphones starting in the second half of this year- an initial adoption that will expand to most high-end smartphones worldwide next year," said Young-Hyun Jun

Not much is known about the Galaxy S5 at this time, but this new RAM module will most likely be used to create the device since it will launch sometime next year. It is currently in early development stages. The new component will bring great speed to a line of smartphones that is already powerful.

"We will develop a new 3GB LPDDR3 solution based on four 6GB LPDDR3 DRAM chips by symmetrically stacking two chips on each side, which will boost smartphone performance to the next level by year-end," he continued.
