Samsung Galaxy S6: Device to Face-Off Against the LG G3
Samsung's Galaxy S5 has only been released for a few months now and consumers are already looking forward to the S5's successor in the Galaxy smartphone line. The Galaxy S6 won't be out for a while since the South Korean tech giant usually releases their next phone a year after the last phone's release.
Rival tech company Apple is already preparing its iPhone 6 for a 2014 release but Samsung isn't likely to follow close and is biding their time before releasing the Galaxy S6. Earlier this year, the Galaxy S5 was released during the Mobile World Congress as with the previous models of the Galaxy line. Most likely the Galaxy S6 will be released during the MWC 2015.
The Galaxy S6 is rumored to use the Super AMOLED screen much like what Samsung uses on their current models. As for the screen size, the S6 is likely to be bigger than the 5.1-inch S5 with speculations that it might go for a 5.5-inch screen to compete with the LG G3.
If Samsung plans to match the G3's screen size, they could opt to match the QHD resolution as well or surpass it by going for a 4K display (3840 x 2160). It is possible that the S6 will have the 4K display since the Galaxy Note 4 is already slated to get it when it comes out on the market. Aside from a bigger and sharper screen, it could also be possible that the S6 will have a curved screen design or a flexible display.
When it comes to specs, it would be expected that the S6 to have a more powerful processor than the S5. For starters, it could go ahead and run on a 64-bit chip since Apple is already running the technology on most of their current iPad lines.
Depending on what resolution the S6 will take, it will need either the Snapdragon 805 or 810 processor. If it goes for a QHD display, a Snapdragon 805 will be sufficient but will need the more powerful 810 for 4K display support.
For the camera, a 16-megapixel snapper is most possible but Samsung could go up to 20-megapixels.
As with any flagship phone successor, the S6 would be more expensive than the S5. The guess would be that it could match the price of the G3 at around $800.
