Samsung Galaxy S7 Leak Hints at Plan to Compete with iPhone 6s

The latest Samsung Galaxy S7 leak suggests that the South Korean tech giant is positioning its next flagship smartphone as a direct rival to Apple's iPhone 6s.

Based on the new leak, Samsung will release three Galaxy S7 models — the S7, S7 Edge, and the S7 Edge Plus. The upcoming smartphones will run on a processor that matches the one in the iPhone 6s and will have a better display resolution, according to Network World.

Rumor has it that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will sport a 5.1-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixel at 577 ppi, but the latter will have rounded-glass edges. The S7 Edge Plus, on the other hand, will come with a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixel at 534 ppi. These display resolutions are superior to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, the report details.

In addition, there are reports saying the Galaxy S7 will run on either an Exynos 8990 chip or Snapdragon 820 Octa-core SoCs, which will be at par with the iPhone 6s.

As for the camera of the Galaxy S7, rumors say Samsung will downgrade it to 12 megapixels from the previous 16, but will compensate with brighter lens and improved low-light performance, the Latin Post reports.

When it comes to the design for the new flagship, Samsung will reportedly ditch the plastic materials in favor of metal to give the Galaxy S7 a more premium feel.

Moreover, the Galaxy S7 will reportedly come with a feature that will compete with Apple's Live Photo. The Vivid Photo feature will allow the user to record the first and last one and a half seconds of the moment when they snap a photo to make it appear that the image is coming to life. The photo feature, however, will only be available on future software updates, the report adds.

There is still no word on the release date of the Galaxy S7, but fans think Samsung will unveil the new flagship at the Mobile World Congress or within the first half of 2016. More information on the upcoming smartphone is expected to surface in the coming weeks.
