Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date, Specs News: Flagship Gets March Launch; Edge Display Teased
The Samsung Galaxy S8 will finally see the light of day on March 29, Samsung has announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona.
The tech titan released a 15-second teaser and proceeded to send out invites for a Samsung Unpacked event in New York with the tagline, "Unbox your phone."
The invite hints that Samsung will introduce a brand new design for the Samsung Galaxy S8. Forbes believes that the flagship will usher in a new era of design for the next smartphone offerings from the company.
The site says that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will likely have an edge-to-edge screen, which means that it will feature bezels on the sides while the top and bottom bezels will be thinner.
This is no surprise as Samsung has said in the past that they are looking to make the edge display as the identity of their flagship smartphone line. Samsung Mobile business head Koh Dong-Jin stated this last year via Android Authority.
"Samsung has considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup if the company can provide consumers differentiated user experience through software and user-friendly functions," he said.
The unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is much later than usual because this time, the South Korean tech giant took its time to make sure that its flagship will be flawless after the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.
With the damage that the issue has caused, Samsung made it its mission to make sure the Samsung Galaxy S8 regains the trust of the customers.
Samsung was determined to shorten the periods between the release dates of its flagships. However, the problematic battery of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 urged it to take its time in making sure it is of highest quality.
Other specifications and features to expect in the Samsung Galaxy S8 includes a waterproof design, wireless charging and a dual camera setup.
