Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date, Specs Rumors: Smartphone to Debut at March Event in New York
By now, it is common knowledge that Samsung will not be debuting the Galaxy S8 series at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month. Instead, the South Korean technology company is scheduling a late March unveiling at an event that will be set in New York.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the March event will be "Samsung's most closely watched product launch in years," owing it to the company's controversial release of the Galaxy Note 7. It can be recalled that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was the subject of much concern last year when it was revealed that the smartphones' batteries were not up to par, causing them to overheat and spontaneously combust.
With Samsung taking the necessarily steps to ensure the same does not occur with the Galaxy S8 series--even going so far as to spend millions of dollars on a new product safety assurance process--2017 may see a turnaround for the company.
However, there has been talk of a different issue when it comes to the Galaxy S8's battery. It is widely rumored that Samsung will be using bigger displays for the Galaxy S8 series. This will apparently be achieved by increasing the size of the smartphones, and thinning out the top and bottom bezels. And a bigger display definitely means more battery consumption. According to Forbes, this is a cause for concern since the Samsung Galaxy S8 is apparently not going to include a batter with a higher mAh.
Purported leaks also reveal that the physical home button will be removed as a result of the thinner bezels. The fingerprint scanner will then be moved to the back of the smartphone, but the placement is rather inconvenient.
Right now, though, nothing can be known for sure. Technology enthusiasts will just have to wait until late March for the grand unveiling, although rumor has it that a teaser clip of the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be making its way to the Mobile World Congress.
