Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus vs. iPhone 7 Plus: Biggest Battle of Smartphones Yet
A few days ago, Samsung finally unveiled its comeback device, the Galaxy S8+, with its standard variant, the Galaxy S8. With the jaw-dropping specifications that the Galaxy S8+ sports, it is safe to say that people are about to see the greatest battle of smartphones yet between Samsung's newest release and Apple's iPhone 7 Plus.
It is important to note though that there are still a lot of things to discover about the Galaxy S8+, especially in the aspect of using it on a daily basis since the device is yet to be released in the market on April 21, unlike the iPhone 7 Plus that has been out for some months now.
However, reports are now rife with reviewers' first impressions of the smartphone since it was unveiled in New York City last March 29. These reviews give consumers enough insight especially on deciding which between the Galaxy S8+ and iPhone 7 Plus they are going to buy.
Screen
The iPhone 7 Plus launched with 5.5-inch liquid crystal display panel touchscreen that has been the common component for Apple smartphone products for some time now. The screen supports a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels with about 401 pixels per inch density on a 67 percent screen-to-body ratio.
Meanwhile, Samsung apparently wants to highlight that the Galaxy S8+ offers more room for multitasking now that the company has launched its trademarked innovation, the Infinity Display. The Galaxy S8+ does not only have a bigger 6.2-inch screen on the company's signature curved edge display. It increases the screen-to-body ratio by up to 84 percent while offering 1,440 x 2,960 resolution with about 529 ppi.
With more room on the screen, Galaxy S8+ owners will have a better time working with multiple windows simultaneously - something that is made possible by its operating system upon launch, the Android 7.0 Nougat.
Memory and Processor
In terms of random access memory, the Galaxy S8+ gets the upper hand with a 4 GB capacity compared to the 3 GB found on the iPhone 7 Plus.
While the iPhone 7 Plus offers a base internal storage 32 GB to 128 GB and 256 GB, Apple is known for not having an external card slot for memory expansion.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S8+ is pre-packed with a 64 GB memory plus a dedicated microSD card slot for memory expansion of up to 256 GB. Future owners of this device can also choose to use two SIM cards and one memory card slot or do away with one network and work with two extra memory cards.
In the processor department, for several parts of the world like in the U.S., consumers will get a Galaxy S8+ powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with four cores of 2.35-gigahertz and another four cores that runs with 1.9 GHz.
The iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, has the Apple A10 Fusion chipset that comes with four cores running on 2.2 GHz. Both chipsets are built with 64-bit process.
Camera and Battery
While several smartphones launched before the iPhone 7 Plus was released with the dual-lens rear camera setup, it is still safe to say that Apple was the one to really convince the world they need this feature once they introduced it on the iPhone 7 Plus. However, Samsung still decided to skip that. Meanwhile, both main rear cameras of these devices are built with a 12-megapixel capacity.
As for the batteries, the component in the Galaxy S8+ is built with a 3,500-milliampere hour capacity, whereas the iPhone 7 Plus has 2,900 mAh. However, people are still yet to find out how the Galaxy S8+ will perform when put to an actual test.
