Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 to Run on Ice Cream Sandwich
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 will be the first tablet released by the Korean electronics maker to feature Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, according to a report from SammyHub.
Specifications on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 include a 7-inch WSVGA touch-screen display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 3-megapixel main camera, A-GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, microSD and an impressive 4,000mAh battery.
The device will also come in different variants based on its amount of memory including 8GB, 16GB and 32GB versions. There will also be Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi 3G models when it launches in the U.K. next month.
The Wi-Fi only model is expected to be priced around $450 and the 3G model will sell for $550.
Samsung was the first smartphone/tablet maker to release a device running on the new software with the Galaxy Nexus smartphone that launched last Dec.
The current Samsung Galaxy Tab runs on Android 3.2, Honeycomb and there are variants of the model that run on 4G LTE which means that the next generation of Galaxy Tabs will most likely on that network as well.
This Galaxy Tab 2 will join ASUS's Eee Pad Transformer Prime as one of the first tablets powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Samsung helped to launch the system on its smartphone late last year, so there is a good chance that the Galaxy Tab 2 could become the flagship tablet for the software.
Various developers have successfully ported Android 4.0 on to several different devices including the Samsung Galaxy S2.
The Galaxy S2 is expected to receive an official upgrade to the software on March 1 of this year, according to a recent post on industry insider Eldar Murtazin's Twitter account.
Some of these ports from developers have been somewhat successful, but have come with their fair share of bugs.
