Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Review: Summary of Specs, Features

There are certain things that aren't advisable to do when using an ordinary tablet. For instance, you shouldn't take it with you during a nice, relaxing soak in the bath. Moreover, it shouldn't be used by very small children who are very likely to drop the device at least once while they're playing games on it. It's a good thing Samsung has expanded its range to include a tablet—the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active—which could withstand accidental drops and emerge unscathed after being submerged in water.

The tablet is similar to the Panasonic Toughpad, but is definitely more affordable. Here, we take a closer look at the device.

Design:
The Galaxy Tab Active is a ruggedized tablet that is designed for heavy handling. It's probably the best device for people who work outdoors and live an active lifestyle. It comes in a thick rubber case with a C-pen tucked into the top. The device measures 4.97 x 8.39 x 0.38 inches and weighs 13 ounces. It has three physical buttons below the display, a removable back panel, and a microSD card slot.

The tablet can withstand a 1.2 meter (4-foot) drop, and it can be submerged in three feet of water up to 30 minutes. It will also work well even in very cold or very hot temperatures and it performs well whether in -4 or 140-degree temperatures.

Features:
The device has an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, which, though it's quite good, it's still not up to the standards of HD panels available on some tablets in the $300 to $400 range. It's powered by a 1.2 GHz quad core Qualcomm processor backed by Samsung Exynos and runs on the Android 4.4. It comes with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 64GB with a microSD card.

At the back of the tablet is a 3.1MP camera, and the front has a 1.2MP shooter. The Tab Active is IP67 dust and water resistant certified. The tablet also boasts 10 hours battery life.

Price:
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active costs $699.
