Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 vs Google Nexus 7 2016: Battle of Upcoming Premium Tablets; Specs and Features Compared
The tablet market has seen a slow decline in sales throughout the years. However, tech companies do not seem fazed by this fact though, as the playing field just keeps getting crowded with every new release. This year, Google and Samsung dish it out with the upcoming Nexus 7 and Galaxy Tab S3.
Display
Samsung has long reigned the display department as it has seemingly mastered the technology through its Galaxy smartphones. Consequently, these innovations will make their way to the Galaxy Tab S3 as it will feature the similar Super AMOLED panel and an upgraded 4K display resolution. There will be two variants, an 8-inch one and a 9.7-inch model.
Google, however, has always partnered with other manufacturers to develop their devices. This year, they will once again collaborate with Huawei after the successful Nexus 6P smartphone. The Nexus 7 will, as the name implies, come with a 7-inch screen. It will then sport an AMOLED panel with a lower 2K Quad HD panel.
Performance
The new Nexus 7 will most likely stick with Qualcomm chipsets, sporting a Snapdragon 820 or 821 as its main driver. It will then pack 4GB of RAM, with 64GB of on-board storage capacity. There is also a very slim chance that the tablet will pack Huawei's proprietary Kirin chipsets, but this is unlikely to happen.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will then most probably launch with the Korean company's own Exynos chipset. The newest octa-core Exynos 8890 will power the device, along with a similar setup of 4GB RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.
Software and Battery
The Nexus 7 is a step ahead in the game as it will launch with a stock Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out of the box. It will also receive the latest software updates faster, being a part of the Google product family. The Galaxy Tab S3 will then be running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with Samsung's own TouchWiz skin on top.
Being huge devices, both the Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Tab S3 will be equipped with equally immense batteries. Google and Huawei will pack a 5100 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 on the Nexus 7. On to the Samsung side, the 8-inch model of the Galaxy Tab S3 will be sporting a 4000 mAh battery pack, with the 9.7-inch variant showcasing a huge 5870 mAh one.
Pricing and Availability
There are no official announcements yet as to the release of both tablets. However, leaks have reported that the Nexus 7 will be launched at Google's event on October 4, along with the new Pixel phones. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will then reportedly bear a price tag of $420. No pricing information yet is rumored for the Google tablet.
