Samsung Gear VR Headset Ready for Pre-order Through T-Mobile

Samsung announced on Friday that they are now set to launch Gear VR, the virtual reality headset that many fans have been waiting for. According to Geek Wire, the new gadget will first hit store shelves through mobile carrier T-Mobile and it will cost a total of $99.99 (approximately Rs. 6,600). It will be released on Black Friday, Nov. 27 in T-Mobile stores and online.

Those who are interested to get it as soon as possible can also pre-order it from Best Buy, Amazon and Samsung.com for delivery on Nov 20. But they will need to be quick in making their orders as the site noted that initial supplies may be limited. Regal Tribune also reported that customers can choose to login on Oculus Store where they may submit online forms to avail of a pre-order.

The Gear VR is Samsung's first virtual reality headset made to support the 2015 Samsung Galaxy flagship smartphones which include the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The South Korean tech giant teamed up with Facebook-owned Oculus to create the groundbreaking VR technology.

Samsung detailed that it comes along with a Super AMOLED display which is wide in terms of field of view and is designed with accurate head-tracking and low latency that makes the virtual world really realistic. The unique experience begins by simply slipping in the smartphone into the headset. It's claimed to be very comfortable when wearing over the head as it is now 19 percent lighter compared to the previous model.

As reported by NDTV Gadgets, the Samsung Gear VR carries 201.9mm x 116.4mm x 92.6mm measurements and weighs 310 grams. It is equipped with a gyroscope, proximity sensor, accelerometer and a field of view that is capable of providing up to 96 degrees.

The gadget will need apps to run on it and Tech Times listed some free apps that the owners can get to experience the virtual reality immersion. Included in the list are Titans of Space, Temple Run VR, Milk VR, Netflix, VRSE, Anshar Wars and NYT VR.
