Samsung Gear VR News: Device Comes Free With Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge Pre-Orders
After slashing $51 from its original price upon its first release, changing the price tag from $150 to only $99, Samsung is now giving away its Gear VR accessory for free as a promo that hopes to lure in prospective buyers to place a pre-order on its upcoming Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge.
According to CNET, there is no upcoming new Gear VR headset that will be released. In the event that someone decides to place a pre-order on either Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge, the accompanying freebie that he can expect to receive is the same VR headset that was launched last year.
The said VR headset is compatible with Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Note 5 and S6 Edge+ phones, and with the upcoming Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, eventually.
Those planning to place a pre-order for Samsung's newest smartphones will not only receive a Gear VR, though, as the would-be purchase will also come with six free games that reportedly sum up to an amount of $150 value if purchased separately.
The promo runs from Feb. 23 to March 18 only.
Apart from launching the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung has also unveiled its Gear 360 camera that shoots 360-degree video that can be uploaded and eventually viewed on the Gear VR headset. CNET opined that Samsung's move to give out free Gear VR to prospective Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge buyers can be an attempt of the company to lasso in interested buyers of the camera.
Meanwhile, NBC News reported that Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg graced the Samsung Galaxy launching event in Barcelona. There, he announced that Facebook has a new social VR team that will work on researching and developing virtual reality for social networking and discovering how it can help in terms of connecting people.
