Samsung Nexus Prime, Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich to Be Unveiled Oct. 19
Google revealed Thursday that its new operating system to run on Android devices, Ice Cream Sandwich, will be unveiled in a joint event with Samsung Electronics in Hong Kong on Oct. 19, after the launch was previously delayed due to the death of Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs.
Google and Samsung had originally scheduled the launch for Ice Cream Sandwich on Oct. 11 in San Diego, but Jobs' sudden death prompted the two companies to delay the new operating system's unveiling as the world was still mourning the tech innovator. Jobs, 56, died Oct. 5, two months after stepping down as Apple's CEO.
The latest Android operating system will now be revealed to the world next Wednesday across the ocean at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center at 9:30 a.m. local time, based on invites sent to technology journalists Thursday afternoon.

"We are unpacking our new Android phone in concurrence with Google," Samsung said in a statement on Friday, according to Reuters.
Samsung Electronics is expected to unveil its new phone running on Android's Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, which tech experts speculate will be called the Nexus Prime or Galaxy Nexus.
Ice Cream Sandwich is said to be the first version of the Android technology to be used on both mobile phones and tablets.
For those who do not have a special invitation to Hong Kong, Android will be live streaming the event through Google's YouTube network at youtube.com/android. Due to the time difference, however, viewers in the United States should log onto the Internet beginning at 10 p.m. EDT (7 p.m. PDT) Tuesday night.
