Samsung Plans to Sell 2 Million Units With Android Powered Galaxy Note

Samsung recently launched its Android-powered Galaxy Note smartphone that the company hopes will sell somewhere in the 2 million range.

Samsung set this forecast for the device recently, but gave no allotted amount of time regarding the company moving that many units of the device.

The Note is positioned in between Samsung’s flagship line of Galaxy smartphones and its Android-powered Galaxy Tab. It seems to be a crossover device sporting a 5.3-inch display, larger than most smartphones and smaller than most tablets.

This suggests that Samsung is trying to be ahead of the market by offering a device that can perform the functions of both a tablet and a smartphone.

Samsung explained the Galaxy Note and its goal with the device in a recent statement.

“Galaxy Note is a revolutionary product opening a new category in the market,” said JK Shin, head of mobile communications business, in a statement.

The long anticipated Galaxy Nexus also launched overseas in November. This device introduced Android’s newest operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Other specifications on the Galaxy Note include 4G LTE connectivity, a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 800x1280 pixels, Gorilla Glass display, TouchWiz user interface v4.0, 16/32GB internal memory, Bluetooth 3.0 and an 8-megapixel-rear camera capable of filming in 1080p HD.

For power, the Note features a dual-core 1.4GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor. It also comes with a Li-lon 2500 mAh battery for extended use on the device. It runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and should receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update soon. It also features a 2-megapixel camera in the front of the device.

It officially hit the market today and is priced between $700 and $800.

The Galaxy Nexus is expected to hit stores sometime next month in the United States and should retail somewhere around $249.99 on Verizon.
