Samsung 'Project Valley' News: New Launch Markets Revealed for Foldable Smartphone

Reports have emerged there will be several launch markets for Samsung's first foldable smartphone, codenamed "Project Valley."

In March this year, South Korean tech manufacturer, Samsung officially revealed it was developing a foldable smartphone it had dubbed "Project Valley" and reports have recently surfaced that selected markets have been chosen for the flexible handset's launch early next year.

"Project Valley" is reportedly being readied for unveiling in the UK, France, Italy, Poland, a number of Nordic countries, and Samsung's home country, South Korea. Carrying the model number SM-G929F, "Project Valley" has been scheduled for a January 2016 unveiling.

Based on the list, the US does not number among the initial launch markets for "Project Valley," although availability in North American territories cannot be ruled out as there may be a possibility Samsung is planning a second launch schedule shortly after the first.

Touted to be the world's first smartphone with a foldable display, "Project Valley" is reported to come in a U-shape, with the "valley" in between the touchscreen giving it its name.

The patent for the device was previously leaked showing a handset appearing to fold like a man's wallet in a single foldable display of one touchscreen instead of a concept of a fold between two touchscreen sections, as earlier believed.

The fold in the patent is seen as a semi-circular shape, unlike Samsung's current models with curved displays, such as the Galaxy S6 Edge, S6 Edge +, and Galaxy Note Edge.

According to rumors, the device is currently in its testing phase with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU on board supported by 3GB of RAM and an expandable memory via microSD slot.

No other details on "Project Valley" have been released, but with the rumored January 2016 launch date, "Project Valley" is expected to be featured at the 2016 CES in Las Vegas, which falls on the same month, and where the handset may be introduced to the public for the first time.
