South Korean tech giant company Samsung is gearing up to unveil a new smartwatch in September at the IFA 2015 in Berlin, Germany.

Unlike Samsung's first Gear S, which featured a rectangular curved face, the Gear S2 will be a round smartwatch with a metal band surrounding its circular casing, a design change that appears to be a total revamp of its predecessor and a mimic of the Moto 360. The smartwatch's app drawer is round, as well, which is similar to the app drawer found in the Apple Watch.

Based on the teaser video, a Nike app will come with the Gear S2 out of the box, and users can expect phone connectivity, a SIM card slot and WiFi when the wearable is officially unveiled in two weeks.

Some of the watch-optimized apps that appeared in the video include a time zone app, a weather app, a sports tracker, a stopwatch, and a heart rate sensor.

While the Gear S sported a 3G radio and gave users the ability to make calls without connecting to their mobile phone, as well as text from the wearable's onscreen QWERTY keyboard, it has not yet been revealed whether the same features will be available on the rounded Gear S2.

Speculation has also run rife as to whether the Gear S2 will run Android Wear OS or Tizen, and there has been no information released as to the exact dimensions of the upcoming wearable. However, based on its rounded design, it appears to be less bulky compared to its predecessor.

The Samsung Gear S2 will be officially introduced on September 3, the second day of the week-long IFA consumer electronics trade show.
