Samsung to Launch Xperia Z Competitor With a Hardcore Galaxy S4

Samsung could launch a hardcore version of the Galaxy S4 sometime this year.

The company is reportedly considering releasing a variant of the device that is both water and dustproof, according to YouMobile.org. Samsung might even unveil this version sometime in the coming weeks.

The report also states that a high-ranking official for the company has mentioned the possibility of a press conference in the Gulf that might be used to introduce the device.

Sony recently launched its Xperia Z, which is a water-proof high-end smartphone. Samsung has yet to actually release something along those lines. The market for water and dust resistant devices seems to be growing as the Xperia Z has been selling quite well since its initial release.

Sony reportedly sold 4.6 million Xperia Z smartphones in just 40 days. The company got a head start on many of its competitors including Samsung and HTC who are both launching their flagship devices sometime this month.

Sony also found creative ways to market the waterproof device. In Prague, the company had an advertisement where a woman was showing and using the Xperia Z while washing.

Aside from its waterproof design, the Xperia Z also features some impressive specs including a 5-inch, 1080p display NFC (near-field-communications), 13-megapixel main camera, a 1.5GHz asynchronous quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB RAM, one-touch mirroring and 4G LTE.

The Galaxy S4 features a 5-inch Super AMOLED 1080 Full HD display, 2GB RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, 4G LTE, an Exynos Octo 5410 chipset in select markets, and a 2-megapixel front camera.

In order to compete, Samsung would have to keep those specs intact while replacing the current body with something that is dust and waterproof.
