Samsung Unveils New Flip Phone With Powerful Specs
Along with Samsung's announcement of its newest flagship devices, the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, the Korean phone company also unveiled a flip phone that would best all other flip phones in the market because of its powerful specifications.
According to a Tech Times report, this unveiling is an expected one, since news have been previously circulating that Samsung has been working on a new flip phone. Earlier reports in July point to a leak from China's certification center that such a phone has passed through their certification process.
The flip phone which goes by the model number SM-G9198 is reportedly intended for the Chinese market, where flip phones are still popular, along with other Asian countries such as Korea. With its specifications, the report called it "the most powerful flip phone in the world."
The new device has just one but two displays, which measures at 3.9-inch, is Super AMOLED and has a 1,280 by 768 pixel resolution. Under the hood, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor chipset and runs with 2 GB of RAM. This is arguably more powerful than other recently released flip phones like the Galaxy Folder or the LG Gentle. The dual display is also unique, giving the user access to the display even if the phone is folded.
It has a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5 megapixel front-facing camera. Internal storage is at 16 GB, expandable to 128 GB via microSD. Battery capacity is at 2,020 mAh, which reportedly gives 189 hours of standby time. It will run with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and will be able to support two SIMs. The phone is also equipped with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, support for microUSB 2.0 and GPS.
The phone will be available for a hands-on experience at the Samsung booth during the IFA 2015 in Berlin. It is not yet known if the new phone will be sold outside China or other Asian markets.
