Samsung vs. Apple in Smartphone War: Samsung Wins in Sales Battle
Samsung overtook Apple in the last quarter in Smartphone sales, becoming the world`s largest smartphone vendor.
According to the Milton Keynes-based Strategy Analytics, Samsung shipped 27.8 million smartphones in the last quarter, accounting for 23.8 percent of the global smartphone market. Meanwhile, Apple was pushed to the second position taking 14.6 percent with 17.1 million shipments. Nokia held the third position comprising 14.4 per cent of the market.
The adoption of Google`s Android software for both smartphones and tablets is pointed as the driver of Samsung’s success.
“Samsung’s rise has been driven by a blend of elegant hardware designs, popular Android services, memorable sub-brands and extensive global distribution. Samsung has demonstrated that it is possible, at least in the short term, to differentiate and grow by using the Android ecosystem,” reported Strategy Analytics.
According to Bloomberg, a Beijing analyst, T.Z. Wong, points that Samsung has come out with products that appeal to all the different form factors and specifications out there. That is a strategy, he said, that they have executed very well.
Strategy Analytics links Apple’s lower performance not only to strong competition from Samsung and the overall economy, but also the idea of people holding off on buying iPhones in anticipation of a new model getting released this autumn.
Apple and Samsung have been in a legal battle accusing each other of infringing patents for technology used in handsets and tables. The battle intensified as Apple claimed that Samsung’s Galaxy devices copied the iPhone and the iPad.
Samsung rose 2.3 percent to 945,000 Won at close of trading in Seoul Friday, Bloomberg reports.
