Samsung is looking to change the landscape of VR and video content sharing by revamping their Gear 360 VR. It has been remade in order to allow users to upload 360-degree videos and shorts, changing the future of video content sharing and YouTube.

Samsung has re-designed their VR device that allows anybody to create, upload and share 360-degree videos. Social media platforms that currently support this kind of content as well as live streaming are Facebook and YouTube.

VR Video Seminar, Contest and Vidcon

Marc Mathieu of Samsung Electronics America believes that VR content and 360-degree videos will be the new way of communication.

To herald the transition, Samsung is targeting YouTube content creators and other amateurs, offering them VR video creation seminars at the VidCon 2016. VidCon attendees will also have the chance of buying their own Samsung Gear 360 VR device for $350 on a limited release.

Samsung has announced that they will be holding a Creators Awards contest for vloggers and filmmakers for the most creative 360-degree videos. According to their website, the content can range from travel, science and technology, fashion, sports, music, gaming and even 4D. One winner will be chosen from each category, who will receive $10,000 cash, a masterclass for VR creation, exclusive ticket to the Creators Awards ceremony and a roundtrip ticket to NYC for the ceremony.

Shooting a VR video is done via a qualifed Samsung Galaxy smartphone. The device allows users to create content, upload and share the videos with ease.

With the rise of YouTube stars and other online media creators, it is understandable that many are scurrying to find the next big thing apart from telling their own unique stories. Samsung is pushing their VR 360 Gear to create a new angle on how stories can be told in a fresh way.
