San Francisco 49ers Rookie Linebacker Reuben Foster Dealing With Sore Ribs, Should Play Against the Eagles his Sunday
Rookie linebacker Reuben Foster has had to deal with multiple injuries already since the San Francisco 49ers selected him with the 31st overall pick in this year's draft. Fortunately, his latest injury isn't going to force him to miss more games this season.
Foster had just returned to the starting lineup last Sunday after he was sidelined for six weeks due to a high ankle sprain, but he sustained a rib injury midway through the third quarter after he landed on his side while tackling Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.
The rookie linebacker would return to the game, but he got hurt again when he tried to tackle Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the third quarter and he was pulled out of the game.
The 49ers initially feared that he might have broken his ribs, but a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam on Monday revealed that there was nothing to worry about and Foster was just dealing with sore ribs.
"He should be good to go. We'll re-check it (Tuesday). He was real sore today. But the MRI and X-rays were negative," 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday, via the Sacramento Bee.
Shanahan also noted that Foster should be "good to go" when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.
Foster started at middle linebacker last Sunday and he actually did a decent job by recording five tackles.
"For his first NFL game, not counting the (11) plays he had against Carolina, I thought he did a pretty good job. He got our guys lined up fast every time. I think he'll get better as we go. I think he'll learn from a lot of stuff that he did miss. But for his first game out there, I thought he did a pretty good job," Shanahan said of Foster, via the Mercury News.
