The New York Giants will host the San Francisco 49ers in a massive match up for both teams. The defending Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks are second with 6-3, leaving the 49ers in third and in desperate need of a string of victories.
The Giants meanwhile are down and almost out. They are joint last in the NFC East, with themselves and the Washington Redskins on 3-6 and with a mountain to climb if they are to find a way to sneak into the postseason.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been impressive as everyone expected from the start of the season, and they currently lead the division with a 7-2 record. However, the Dallas Cowboys have surprised many by keeping in touch with the Eagles, and at the moment Dallas is in second in the division with a 7-3 record.
That means the Giants have a long way to go to catch up, and even if they win out the season from here they are probably still unlikely to make the cut.
Today will see Eli Manning come up against Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick is 179 of 289 for 2,166 yards and 13 touchdowns. Manning meanwhile is 202 of 321 for 2,215 yards and 17 touchdowns.
The teams have near identical total yards per game, with the 49ers posting 343.9 yards per game compared to the Giants' 343.4 yards per game. All indications are that this one will be close and could go either way.
