Savannah Guthrie 'Felt Bad' for Gosselin Twins During Interview

"Today" host Savannah Guthrie "felt bad" for Kate Gosselin's daughters, Mady and Cara, during their interview last week. The twins were famously silent during the live interview, which upset their mother and made for an uncomfortable segment on the "Today" show.

"I was really surprised, because they came in and I thought the girls had something on their minds and they wanted to get if off their chest, so I was really surprised when they didn't say too much," Guthrie told Andy Cohen during his show, "Watch What Happens Live." "But I was kind of empathetic to them, because it isn't easy to get up on national television. It isn't something they do in their everyday lives, so I felt bad for them."

The twins famously remained quiet when asked questions by Guthrie, and mom Kate urged them to speak, making them look even more uncomfortable.

"Mady, your words. It's your chance. Spit it out. So this is their chance to talk," Kate told Guthrie. "This is the most wordless I've heard them all morning. I don't want to speak for them, but Mady, go ahead. Sort of the things that you said in the magazine. That years later, they're good, they're fine. Go for it, Mad, it's your chance."

"No, you just said it," Mady replied.

Since the "Today" show fiasco, the twins have appeared on "The View," where they actually appeared comfortable and spoke about their chores, music, and their parents' divorce. The girls seemed to pull a 180 in their public comfort.

"Honestly, it wasn't hard for us," Mady said when asked about the divorce. "I think it was harder for you, definitely," she said while looking at Kate. "It really didn't affect me. I mean, we still saw both parents. And we were little. We were like nine (years old), eight or nine. We knew what was going on but we didn't see the stuff."

The girls' dad, Jon, was outraged by the "Today" show appearance and has threatened to sue for full custody of the girls.
