Say What?

The Media of Mass Deception (MMD) negatively affects the core values of the American people through a variety of tactics. Over the last few weeks, we've explored "The Name Game" and "The Blitz." Another one of the MMD's most deceptive tools is taking a half-truth and promoting it as a broadly acknowledged fact – or – "Say What?"

The two most popular examples of this tactic are evolution and the so-called "separation of church and state." To be sure, there are elements of truth in each of these.

For instance, there is some sense of the "survival of the fittest" in the animal kingdom. Weaker members of an animal clan are often the victims of predators, as compared to their stronger, faster brothers and sisters. But does this translate into the evolution of a superior species over time? The answer is no – or at least it has not been scientifically proven.

And when Thomas Jefferson used the phrase, "thus building a wall of separation between Church & State," in his letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802, he was indeed outlining a philosophy of God and government. But the letter actually encourages the opposite of what this phrase has come to mean today. Jefferson wanted to make sure the government kept its hands out of Church business, not the other way around.

The MMD is masterful at taking these two half-truths and pushing them into American homes, and indeed into the American psyche, as fact. Don't believe me? Ask ten10 friends (inside or outside the Church) the following questions:

1. Is evolution a fact?
2. Is the separation of church and state in the Constitution? What does it mean?

You'll find that the vast majority believes evolution is the only rational explanation of our existence, and that the Church has no business being involved in government.

And by the way, the positions I'm taking are not based on religion.

By true scientific standards, the theory of evolution is shoddy and inept. (To be termed "scientific," a method of inquiry must be based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. A scientific method consists of the collection of data through observation and experimentation, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses.) The theory of evolution does not and cannot meet some of these criteria and thus is unscientific.

The modern understanding of the separation of church and state is historically incorrect. A simple reading of Jefferson's letter will clear up the current misinterpretation of the principle.

We must be diligent to inspect media messages and make sure what we are accepting as fact is fully true – not only half true.
