'Scandal' Season 5 Recap/Update: Abby Gets Fired, Olivia Tries To Get Her Friend's Job Back

It's been a while since "Scandal" returned for its fifth season and the show is already living up to its title as always. Previously in Episode 2, Olivia Pope had already made a public declaration that she is the mistress of the President of the United States, which created loads of problems not only for President but also for her friend, White House Press Secretary Abby Whelan. According to a report in Variety, the third episode of this season showed a series of events that will likely test the friendship of Abby and Olivia. It also gives viewers some idea of how much attention Olivia has gotten for herself after she admitted her affair with the President.

According to the report, even as Abby tries to do some damage control for the White House after Olivia's revelation, she also feels betrayed that Olivia did not tell her about her relationship with President Fitz. In the end, she decides (with Olivia's agreement) that the only way to handle this was to attack Olivia during a press conference.

The aftermath of this however is not too good for Abby, as she ends ups getting fired by Fitz because she went against his wishes not to push through with Olivia's public shaming. Olivia, on the other hand, wants to help her friend get her job back.

As for the First Lady, this whole affair is giving her some leverage to get what she wants from Fitz, much to the delight of Cyrus Beene who convinced her to do just that. In the end, this leads her to realize that what she really wants is to become president herself.

In the Episode 4 preview, Fitz and Olivia discuss what is happening and Olivia tells Fitz that one thing that he should do is to give Abby her job back. Their serious conversation is cut short however when Olivia sees a photographer who is in the building across her home and taking photographs of her through her living room window. The alarm in her face is apparent as if she just realized how much trouble she is in. According to a report in Refinery29, the question for the next episode would be whether she can deal with the extra attention she is already getting.
