'Scandal' Season 7 News: 'Breaking Bad' Alum Lands Mystery Role

Dean Norris is officially on board the seventh season of "Scandal."

The "Breaking Bad" alum has been tapped to join the ABC drama, according to reports. He will portray a recurring character on the show's farewell season. The network also offered a first look at Norris' character, who is seen having a conversation with Cyrus (Jeff Perry) at President Mellie Grant's (Bellamy Young) first official state dinner.

Unfortunately, further details about his role are still being kept under wraps. Fans have yet to see how he will cross paths with Olivia (Kerry Washington) and whether he will be an ally or a villain. There are speculations that he could be another senator being used by Cyrus to get what he wants. It's also possible that he is someone who has dirt on Olivia, or a possible love interest for Cyrus.

In the upcoming season, Mellie works as the country's President but Olivia is still pulling the strings. Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) spends some time alone in Vermont, while Jake (Scott Foley) attempts to help Olivia run B613.

Norris joins the growing number of actors slated to appear on the political drama for unspecified roles, including "Homeland" actor Shaun Toub and "Nashville" star Jay Hernandez. Apart from the gripping AMC drama "Breaking Bad," Norris' TV credits include "The Big Bang Theory," "Claws," "Girlboss" and "Under the Dome."

In other news, Washington recently offered some teasers about her character's fate when the show picks up next month. The actress noted that Olivia's decisions in certain situations will make everyone wonder if power has corrupted her.

"I do believe in the saying that fame doesn't change you, it reveals who you are, so that's a lot of what this season has been," she told Entertainment Weekly. "There's been a lot of exploration of how can she navigate this extraordinary amount of power being the Chief of Staff of the president and running B613?"

The seventh and final season of "Scandal" premieres Thursday, Oct. 5, at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
