'Scandal' Season 7 Spoilers: Has Cyrus Found the Perfect Ally to Take Down Mellie?

Cyrus (Jeff Perry) may have found the person who will help him take down the new POTUS in the upcoming season of "Scandal."

TVLine reported that a new face will be added to the roster of stars in the ABC series. Dean Norris has been tapped to play an important role in the new installment. Details of his character are being kept under wraps, but one of the promo photos released show him and Perry's character chatting during Mellie's (Bellamy Young) first official state dinner. Cyrus looks eager to please as he talks with the mysterious man. It is possible that Norris' character may hold the key to the Vice President's further ascent to power.

Whatever Cyrus is up to in season 7 will definitely not be good for Mellie. Although the two are supposed to work together as the newly elected leaders of the country, Cyrus knows that it is only a matter of time until his true motives are revealed. Mellie should enjoy her time as president now while she can. When he eventually makes his move, he will make sure that he is the one left strolling the halls of the White House. As for Olivia (Kerry Washington), the newly appointed Chief of Staff, there is no telling where her allegiance lies.

Spoilers reveal that Olivia's priority is to stay in power. If being with Mellie will spell her doom, she will gladly leave her and seek an alliance elsewhere. If Cyrus succeeds in his plan to take Mellie's throne, there is a huge chance that he was able to do it because of Olivia. It has already been teased that she would be the most powerful woman in Washington, and Olivia will make sure it stays that way.

"Olivia's sitting in the highest seat," Washington said in the interview. "Anything that jeopardizes her ability to show up for the republic is potentially a problem. Relationships are not the most important thing right now, unless that relationship serves and enhances her ability to wield her power in the ways that she needs to."

"Scandal" season 7 will premiere on Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
