Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac Divorce News: Actress Files for Divorce, Wants Primary Custody of Daughter

In what was a complete shock to French journalist Romain Dauriac, "The Avengers" star Scarlett Johansson filed court papers last March 7, seeking a final divorce from their two-year marriage.

Page Six broke the news early, in an early report of the divorce filing. Scarlett Johansson has sued for divorce on Tuesday, March 7. The actress has been quoted as saying that her union with Romain Dauriac has become "irretrievably broken."

The issue is further complicated by what could be a lengthy and difficult custody discussion over the couple's three-year-old daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac. "The Avengers" actress is also asking the divorce judge to award her primary custody of their young child. Dauriac's lawyer, Harold Mayerson, spoke to Page Six after the court filing and said that the estranged couple is currently in dispute over with whom their daughter should spend time growing up.

ET has received a statement from Johansson, making it clear that the actress will not be making any further comment on the divorce. "As a devoted mother and private person and with complete awareness that my daughter will one day be old enough to read the news about herself, I would only like to say that I will never, ever be commenting on the dissolution of my marriage," the statement reads. "Out of respect for my desires as a parent and out of respect for all working moms, it is with kindness that I ask other parties involved and the media to do the same. Thank you," the actress' statement concludes.

Johansson and Dauriac have been married in a secret ceremony in October last year, a short time after Scarlett gave birth to their daughter Rose in early September. The actress was previously married to Ryan Reynolds prior to their split in 2011, making this split the second divorce for Johansson.
