Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky. has announced that $2,000 scholarships will be available to college-age students from churches that send campers to Centri-KID at Georgetown. Centri-KID, sponsored by LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention, offers a quality Christian camp experience for children who have completed grades 3-6.

According to the Baptist Press news agency, graduating seniors from the class of 2005 who are members of one of the 53 churches that sent youngsters to Centri-KID at Georgetown last summer, and that pre-registered by Sept. 15 for this summer, are eligible for one Life-Changing Scholarship at Georgetown College.

"We are humbled and blessed to have the Centri-KID camps as an integral part of our summer offerings, and the new Life-Changing Scholarship Program is a tangible way we may institutionally show our mutual commitment to life-changing experiences," said Georgetown President William H. Crouch Jr. Georgetown College, which hosted about 1,670 third- through sixth-graders in four weeks of Centri-KID camp this summer, is one of 45 sites across the nation that host Centri-KID camps.

The Life-Changing Scholarships are $2,000 per year, renewable annually, based upon successful academic progress in the student's chosen degree program and a display of good campus citizenry.

"It's kind of an institutional commitment to the camp," said Pete LaRue, a music professor who established Centri-KID at Georgetown in 2001. "Our president decided one of the categories he wanted to reward, encourage and support with scholarship money was people from churches that sent their kids to Centri-KID."

"Centri-KID provides for the young person an opportunity to be immersed for a week in a climate and a culture of values, compassion and Christian caring that they'll hopefully take home and that truly will change their lives," LaRue added. "To me, if we can change a 10-year-old's life, our world becomes a better place on down the road. It's as simple as that."
