'Scooby-Doo' new animated film announced by Warner Bros.

It was announced by Warner Bros. and Warner Animation Group that there is an upcoming animated "Scooby-Doo" movie currently in progress.

The Scooby-Doo franchise left off with two live-action films, "Scooby-Doo" and "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed" released in 2002 and 2004, respectively. The films featured actors Freddie Prinze, Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini, and Matthew Lillard. The character Scooby-Doo was voiced by Neil Fanning.

Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, producers of the previous live-action films, will be producing the film with Allison Abbate and Dan Povenmire. Abbate has been involved in several successful films such as "The Iron Giant," "The Fantastic Mr. Fox," and Tim Burton movies "Corpse Bride" and "Frankenweenie." Meanwhile, Povenmire has worked on other animated series such as "Phineus and Ferb."

President of Creative Development for Warner Bros. Ben Silverman explained the plans for the upcoming film. He wants to bring the franchise back to the Hanna-Barbera animated cartoon series from the 1960s and early 1970s. He said, "Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters. As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in re-introducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie."

The movie will be completely animated, unlike the previous films released for the franchise. It will be directed by Tony Cervone, who has worked on "Space Jam." The scriptwriter will be Matt Lieberman, who has been working on the project ever since 2013. However, there are no news yet on the voice talent involved in the project. It has not been confirmed if Neil Fanning will take on the voice of Scooby-Doo again. In addition, the plot of the story has yet to be announced.

The new animated Scooby-Doo film is expected to premiere on Sept. 21, 2018.
