'Sea of Thieves': Game Releases Original Music From Technical Alpha
One of the important elements that make a game great and memorable is the music accompanying the journey. As such, Rare is releasing the original music for "Sea of Thieves," and it is foreboding but in an enticing, friendly way.
The music starts with a simple beat commonly heard in pirate films, and then slowly progresses to more subtle, dynamic progressions. With the mixture of high-pitched instruments and low-keyed tunes, it is a great soundtrack to listen to while exploring the multiplayer open world.
The musical score was first heard by players who participated in the Technical Alpha. Composer Robin Beanland describes that the goal of creating the piece was to evoke feelings that a rather ominous plot is coming without sounding too taxing to the ears.
"The thinking behind the 'mood' of the front end music was to incorporate a darker version of the main theme, but not too in-your-face as it could wear thin pretty quickly ... more mysterious and anticipatory," Beanland explains.
This is one of the few revelations coming from the Technical Alpha, as the Insiders who got first dibs are bound by a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), keeping everything under wraps until the developer says they can already share details about the game. Engagement manager Bobby Lamirande shared on the official website, however, that they'll be sharing bits of information as they go along.
Prior to the music, other gameplay videos were shared, revealing how teamwork is a key element in playing "Sea of Thieves." While one member may be steering the wheel, another will be using the compass, the other crew member is looking at the map below deck, and then others will dig up the treasure.
The title is shaping up to be a multiplayer masterpiece. "Sea of Thieves" arrives on Xbox One and Microsoft Windows within 2017.
