'Sea of Thieves' News: Skeleton Tweaks, Open World, Communication and More
Rare's open-world action/adventure game "Sea of Thieves" is truly becoming a game influenced greatly by the players for the players. With individuals picked from the Insider Programme to take part in technical alpha, the developers have received valuable feedback that will change the game for the better.
In a behind the scenes video, executive producer Joe Neate shared how the player insights are shaping the future of the game. From artificial intelligence (AI) adjustments to how the vast, open world enhances the gameplay, everything is taken into careful consideration to produce a multiplayer title like no other.
First, the developer placed skeletons in the world that poses as an AI threat to all players. After receiving feedback that they were too challenging and spawned every so often, this mechanic was then tweaked to regulate their appearance and how threatening they are.
Secondly, given the vast seas, some participants are saying it's hard to actually encounter another player ship in the horizon. With this in mind, the developers have increased the range of sight in such a way that it will be a bit easier yet still pose challenge, requiring strategic approach to spot an enemy crew.
Perhaps the most important feedback was communication. While there are players who enjoy being able to actually talk to one another through proximity voice chat, there are those who prefer nonverbal communication for a variety of reasons. This is why Rare is trying to figure out a way to resolve this, either to group players according to communication preference or provide options for nonvoice chat for all.
More adjustments and tweaks are implemented and itemized on the official website for everyone to browse. For those who wish to gain early access and participate in more of the technical alphas, the Insider Programme is still accepting more players.
"Sea of Thieves" is set to be released on the Xbox One and Microsoft Windows platforms within 2017.
